Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels - a wonderful rejuvenative treatment.

Chemical peels are a great way to rejuvenate dull looking skin. Radiant, healthy, youthful looking skin is our goal for you. Many people are looking for a simple, effective way to improve the texture of their skin without surgery or a facelift. Ageing and sun-damaged skin may develop redness, facial veins, pigmentation and deep wrinkles. Exfoliation of the skin is necessary to keep the skin looking healthy, radiant and youthful looking. The chemical peel procedure uses a solution, to ‘peel’ away the top layers of the epidermis in order to improve conditions such as acne, irregular pigmentation, sun-damage and wrinkles. Chemical peels have been in use for a number of years and are a highly popular way to improve the texture and look of skin. They are a good supplement to a total skin care program. At The Ageless Skin Clinic our light to medium chemical peels can be done in your lunch hour with no down time. It is a great treatment to make you look radiant and give you that special "glow" for that important occasion!

At The Ageless Skin Clinic, we use Glycolic acid peels. Glycolic acid is a natural fruit acid. This fruit acid accelerates the turnover of the superficial layer of the skin, removing the dead surface cells and resulting in exfoliation and thus a fresh, radiant look.

The result is smoother, younger looking skin which looks healthy. Regular exfoliation of the skin is necessary to obtain the best results. Use of a home care range of Cosmaceuticals which our doctor can recommend, helps to maintain a healthy radiant look. Speak to our doctor to see if a regular chemical peels program and home care program would be right for you. The home care program naturally complements  the chemical peels program. Note that patients using Retin-A may have more sensitive skin and should notify our doctor. In some cases, for instance where hyperpigmentation is a problem, our medical doctor will recommend priming the skin for two weeks prior to the peel. This involves the use of Cosmeceutical products that produce a mild gentle exfoliation that in effect prepare the hyperpigmented skin for a Glycolic acid peel. Priming decreases the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. For more severely sun-damaged  skin our medical doctor can perform deeper TCA peels. This involves the use of stronger peels which affect the skin more deeply and may involve some down time.

After the peel
Soon after the peel, there may be slight redness of the skin. This is perfectly normal and as a general rule should disapear within one or two hours. However, most clients will just have a fresh radiant look. There will be no continued skin peeling with our lighter Glycolic acid peels. However, with our deeper TCA peels for more sun-damaged skin, one can expect continued peeling of the skin for a few days afterwards.Skin treated should not be washed until the following morning. One should avoid jewellery and/or metals coming into contact with the treated area until the following day. Your skin will feel tight and dry. Moisturizers should be applied frequently to hydrate the skin. It is recommended that you drink alot of water, avoid the sun and wear sunscreen (at a minimum of  SPF 35) at all times.
